2007 NMBS #2 Firestone Classic

Mike (promoter) put on an excellent race with too many extras to count (I'll try anyway): live music all weekend, complementary pancake breakfasts and pasta dinners, showers, commemorative pint glasses, catering...

I call this my "coat-tail" kit (Addictive cycles kit fell off of the delivery truck...). The race was hot and dusty, typical west coast style; I finished 11th out of 30 starters.

We rode 2 miles through the Firestone vineyard, followed by about 11 miles of up and down in the Ted Chamberlin ranch (from the top, you could see the Michael Jackson Never-Never land ranch; soon to be a subdivision).

Here's Krista hammering to the finish; she made a great pass at the end that led me to believe she might have held a little too much back ;)

Krista was 26th; this was a short race that didn't allow her to pick off the 4 or 5 girls towards the end.

Here she is getting mentally prepared for an ice-bath...

Pool party after the race, good times.

Finally, I took some shots of the Super-D race to check out our new camera; one of Marla Streb and one of a random guy named Dan.

Firestone pre-ride: Land of olives and grapes

I'm helping out with venue setup (i.e. workparties) so Krista and I can pre-ride the course, which is on private land. Hope you didn't miss that, I'm working so We can ride...

Here's a shot of the venue from part of the "vineyard" section of the course. This section is half fun, half strolling through the Firestone (tires) vineyard. The course will be long with lots of climbing; probably 1:15 per lap for us (2 laps total in the race).

Nova Classic NMBS #1 (2007)

Krista had a great race; 20th out of 72 of the fastest women in our country (and some from Canada and Japan).

I had a good race too; the 40-44 men's expert was the largest and fastest group. This was my first expert XC race so now the nerves are gone. I need to practice grabbing my bottle off of the cooler though (dropped it both times and had to go back...)
